SubHorse is a large equine community site. It has quite a history behind it, as it is the first website I ever made that actually grew. It started out as a school project I had to do in college. I used to frequent another horse community site a lot, until one day they completely changed their boards and the way they were run. I suggested my school project site to some of the members, and that's when it really began to take off. Within a couple weeks we had about 100 members, and over the past few years we have grown a ton just from word of mouth. As I post this, we have 980 users and 986862 posts. We grow more and more everyday. The forum is very active because we prune innactive members and hold several monthly contests. The users have become quite tight-nit. Pretty much my entire Icons and Banners section in my portfolio is free stuff I've done for the members of SubHorse.

Now, because the site was built when I first began learning about the internet it is not built with Drupal. The forum part of the site uses phpBB 3, an open source forum framework. The main site is built using Joomla! I should point out that I did not design SubHorse.com, but did design the watermelon and modern themes for the forums. I also significantly tweaked the default theme for phpbb. Now that I am so experienced with Drupal, I am really not a fan of joomla... so we may port over at some point.
